Building a High-Impact
Board-Superintendent Partnership
“Building a High-Impact
Board-Superintendent Partnership” provides detailed, thoroughly tested guidance
that school board members, superintendents, and senior administrators can put to
immediate use in their districts in building the kind of high-impact board
leadership – and really solid board-superintendent partnership – that these
rapidly changing, challenging times demand.
This program draws on presenter Doug Eadie’s 25 years of hands-on
experience in helping school districts and other public and nonprofit
organizations strengthen their governance, and on his 17 books, including three
that focus on K-12 leadership:
The Board-Savvy Superintendent (with AASA’s CEO, Paul Houston);
Eight Keys To an Extraordinary Board-Superintendent Partnership; and
Five Habits of High-Impact School Boards.
“Building a High-Impact Board-Superintendent
Partnership” consists of 6 program modules:
- Board
Governing Role and Work:
a fresh
view of governing as a dynamic decision-making process; practical ways to
map out processes for involving the board in key governing areas - planning;
performance oversight and monitoring; external relations
-
Board Standing Committees:
how well-designed board standing committees can contribute
to high-impact governing as powerful “governing engines;” a model committee
structure that corresponds to the board’s streams of governing decisions and
judgments
-
Board self-management:
practical ways to develop board member governing knowledge
and skills and to manage board governing performance
-
Leading Strategic Change:

Strategic Change Initiatives in the Strategic Change Portfolio
-
The Board-Superintendent Working Relationship:

techniques that are required to build a solid, lasting board-superintendent
partnership; practical ways – most importantly board evaluation of
superintendent performance – to keep the board-superintendent working
relationship productive and healthy
-
The Governance Task Force as a Board Development
Vehicle: practical

and the superintendent and employing the task force to update the board’s
